Flood victims at relief centres receive regular health checks

PASIR MAS: Flood victims currently taking shelter at relief centres in the state are being regularly monitored by the health personnel.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the department has sent several medical teams to the centres to check on flood victims.

He said the deployment of health personnel to these centres during the monsoon season would depend on the number of flood victims evacuated.

"If a centre has less than 1,000 flood victims, the department will deploy a mobile team.

"Meanwhile, for centres with more than 1,000 flood victims, we will set up a static clinic," he told the New Straits Times.

Dr Zaini said each team comprised between 10 and 15 members and they will care for the flood victims' health while at the centres.

"They will treat, monitor and take preventive measures to avoid infectious diseases among flood victims.

"Apart from that, the team will also conduct Covid-19 screening on flood victims to curb the spread of the virus," he added.

He said there was enough supply of medicine and other necessities for use during this monsoon season.

Meanwhile, a check at the SK Kiambang flood relief centre today show that victims continue to undergo regular health checks.
