Batang Kali landslide: Counseling provided for traumatised victims

BATANG KALI: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will provide counseling sessions for those traumatised by the deadly landslide which hit the Father's Organic Farm campsite here this morning.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Aiman Athirah Sabu, said they are also providing food, drinks and mats to help the victims who were brought to the Ulu Yam police station.

"We have assigned a counselor to help victims who are probably traumatised by the incident.

"Some are distraught as their family members have yet to be found. We will provide more counselors if needed," she said.

Counseling, she said, is needed to help the victims come to terms with the trauma.

She said those injured have been sent to the hospital while the rest will be fetched by their family members from the station.

"But as of now, all victims will be seeking shelter here. The Welfare Department is also prepared for any further developments," she said.

She said the ministry has its temporary evacuation centres on standby if needed, namely

Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Yam or Sekolah Menengah Ulu Yam.

Aiman Athirah gave her assurance that the Welfare Department is ready to provide any assistance to the victims.
