Flash flood on LPT2 has receded, say police

KUALA BERANG: A flash flood that occurred at KM393 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT 2), from the direction of Ajil to Kuantan this morning has receded.

Hulu Terengganu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Hasmerra Hassan said the flood at 11am, which was caught on video that share on social media, was believed to be caused by the overflow of water from the slope at the location.

He said no accidents or unwanted incidents occurred due to the floods and that the road in both directions was open to vehicles.

"The overflow receded around 12.30pm. There is no road closure and all types of vehicles can still pass in both directions," he said in a statement today.

Hasmerra said the management of LPT 2 was monitoring the scene.

A 16-second video that went viral on the social media showed overflowing water coming down a hillslope and gushing through highway, but vehicles could still pass.

Yesterday, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage had forecast floods to hit Kuala Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman. – BERNAMA
