Petronas helps east coast flood victims

KEMAMAN: Yayasan Petronas, Petronas' corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, has presented contributions to 2,700 families affected by the floods in three east coast states via the 2022 Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief programme.

Petronas East Coast General Manager, Mohamad Ahmad Shazly Ramli said each family received contributions of food and basic amenities.

"The things given are mineral water, blankets, bath towels, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush and food items.

"The contributions to the flood victims was carried out by Petronas and it involves cooperation from the Welfare Department," he said.

For the programme today, Yayasan Petronas handed over contributions to flood victims at the SK Kemasek temporary flood relief centre (PPS).

The event was launched by Kemasek assemblyman Saiful Azmi Suhaili. Also present was Kemaman District Officer Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab.

Ahmad Shazly said the 2022 Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief programme is a continuous effort carried out by Yayasan Petronas to help flood victims.

He said that Yayasan Petronas contributed RM1 million towards the temporary flood relief centres in 10 states, which were affected by the floods.

"We hope the contributions will help to ease the burden and hardship of flood victims who are seeking shelter at the PPS," he said.

Petronas has also provided contributions to relief agencies in 14 states nationwide.

He said Petronas contributed 36 boats, 8,800 tents, 5,500 safety jackets and 55,000 raincoats in October.

"Early last year, Yayasan Petronas also helped those living in high risk areas in Pekan, Pahang, and Tumpat, Kelantan, in carrying out preparations to face the floods through the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Programme (CBDRM)."
