KUALA LUMPUR: Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has assured that the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants which were shut down following pollution odour will be back in operation as soon as possible.

The minister has also contacted Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari who expressed a commitment to ensure restoration work is carried out as efficiently for the benefit of the people.

"The treatment and recovery process is underway.

"I have already contacted the Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari who confirmed that the Selangor State Government and Air Selangor are doing their best.

"The comfort of consumers is a priority," he told BH briefly.

Earlier, Selangor Tourism and Environment EXCO, Hee Loy Sian said the essence of the perfume oil transported by a container truck was involved in an accident, which caused the oil to spill and flow into a river that connects with Sungai Semenyih.

The two LRA's temporarily stopped their water treatment at 2am this morning, causing 472 areas in four districts in Selangor and one in Putrajaya to experience unscheduled water supply disruptions.

The water supply disruption which began as early as 7am this morning, involved 172 areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat (54), Sepang (196), Putrajaya (23) and Kuala Langat (27).

According to Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) in a statement today, the water supply disruption was caused by pollution detected at the Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station which comes under the supervision of Air Selangor.
