All GLC posts are being streamlined, not just Felcra

SHAH ALAM: All senior positions in government-linked companies (GLCs) are being streamlined, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said this in response to the postponement of the reappointment of former Machang member of parliament Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub as Felcra Bhd chairman.

"That (the postponement) is being done to streamline all statutory bodies, GLCs and other companies under ministries and agencies.

"It will all be streamlined and announced on a date that will be determined by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).

"All positions are being streamlined, not just one (Ahmad Jazlan's). It will be renounced," he told reporters when met here today.

On Wednesday, Anwar said Ahmad Jazlan's reappointment has been put on hold and that Zahid has been notified of the matter.

Anwar said there appeared to be confusion over the appointment of politicians to such positions, adding that he was not against it but stressed on their capabilities and merits.

It was previously reported that Ahmad Jazlan would be reappointed as Felcra Bhd chairman while Rural and Regional Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun would carry out the formalities associated with the appointment.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali had issued a circular to the secretaries-general of each ministry on Dec 15, saying that the Cabinet agreed to terminate the contracts of political appointees.

Among those affected were federal statutory bodies, companies under Finance Ministry Incorporated, government-linked companies and investment companies.

Ahmad Jazlan was appointed Felcra Bhd chairman in October last year and formerly served as deputy rural and regional development minister between 2015 and 2018.
