Kelantan flood victims not in the mood to celebrate Christmas

KOTA BARU: This year's Christmas celebration will be different for the people in the state who were affected by floods.

Several families had expressed their sadness and were not in the festive mood to celebrate the festival tomorrow after seeing the conditions of their inundated homes.

Many of them said their homes were flooded due to the clogged drains.

A businessman, who wanted to be known only as Teng, said he and his family would not celebrate the Christmas tomorrow.

"This is the first time floods hit our terrace house since we bought the house 30 years ago.

"Floodwaters have damaged our furniture and properties. We only managed to save some of them before the water entered our home," said the 65-year-old in Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian here today.

Another victim, who only wanted to be known only as TC How, said she and her family would hold a simple Christmas celebration.

"Since moving to this housing area 20 years ago, this is the first time I experienced floods," said the 40-year-old mother of two.

Another resident, Wee Suat Soon, 74, said apart from furniture, the floods also damaged her car.

The mother of three said 0.3m-deep floodwaters inundated her home for three days.

More than 70 houses were affected by the floods that hit Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian here.
