Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Johor grant audience to PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar granted an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Serene in Johor Baru today.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said he also met Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

"I thank Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to an audience with me. The close to one hour audience marked my working visit to Johor Baru. During the session, I explained the developments in the country as well as in Johor.

"I pray to Allah that Tuanku and the royal family will always be blessed by His grace and always healthy, prosperous and sovereign.

"Daulat Tuanku."

Separately, Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said floods was one of the issues that he brought up to Anwar during the latter's working visit to the state.

Akmal Nasrullah, who is Johor Baru member of parliament, said floods in Segamat and Johor Baru needed urgent attention from the federal government.

"I highlighted the floods problem in Johor to the prime minister earlier. The federal government is committed to resolving this pressing issue.

"We know that a few districts are at risk of flooding, such as Segamat and Johor Baru, which is prone to flash floods.

"The ministry will try to push for flood issues to be resolved, not just in Johor, but in other locations, too.

"This is so that it will be given priority and factored into the 2023 Budget, which will be tabled in February."

Akmal Nasrullah said the government would also look into flood mitigation projects in areas that are under the jurisdiction of local authorities.

"Flood mitigation projects that were agreed upon before the general election will continue. Some may need to be studied further.

"If there are urgent flood mitigation projects that need to be included in the 2023 Budget, I am sure the state government will make a recommendation to the federal government.

"Issues that need quick attention, such as floods, must be given special consideration."
