Three families in Kg Tanggut fire receive monetary aid

KUALA LUMPUR: Three families affected by a pre-dawn fire in Jalan Dewan Simpang Tiga, Kampung Tanggut, here, which claimed the lives of two siblings received RM1,000 in financial aid per family.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said RM500 was disbursed by the Gombak Land and District Office, while another RM500 was donated by the Gombak parliamentary service centre.

He said the family of the children killed in the fire was given an additional RM500 payment.

"This donation is an initial aid to the affected families and the state government will follow up with other steps after the report on the fire is received," he said.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after visiting the victims at Dewan Balai Bomba Sukarela Gombak here tonight, where he spent half an hour with the victims who are now taking shelter at the temporary evacuation centre.

Early this morning, two siblings were found dead after their house and two other homes caught fire.

The children who perished were identified as Nur Syaza Alfisya Muhammad Faizan, 9, and her 6-year-old younger brother Muhammad Al Qayyum.

Amirudin said the state government was also looking into channelling other aid to the victims.

"I understand that the three houses in question are homes rented by the victims. If it is their own land, we can help rebuild their house.

"Because they are rental homes, we will look into other angles such as helping them rent elsewhere with help from the Selangor Tithes Board and the Welfare Department if there is a need," he said.
