RM38.2mil losses recorded in Terengganu floods

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu police received 6,923 police reports with an estimated losses of more than RM38.2 million from flood victims statewide.

State police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said Besut police headquarters received the most reports from flood victims (2,471), with an estimated loss of RM136,183,111.

"The second highest district is Hulu Terengganu recording 732 reports that involved a loss of RM12,013,300, followed by Kemaman (871 cases, RM4,071,920 loss) and Dungun (498 cases, RM3,202,405.03 loss)."

"Setiu district received 454 reports of losses worth a total RM203,460 and Marang receives 220 reports of losses totaling RM562,600"

"The flood caused a total loss of RM3820616.03 reported in 6,923 cases," he said at the Terengganu Police Contingent Headquarters, yesterday.

However, he said police believed the actual loss was higher as some victims did not mention their estimated loss in their reports.

In addition, he said, there were also reports that only reported the type of damage as reference for related agencies.

According to Rohaimi, four police stations in three districts were also affected by the floods.

He said that the flood caused RM1 million property damage, affecting 154 police properties which included Kuala Jengai Police Station in Dungun, Manir Police Station (Kuala Terengganu), Traffic Police Station in Jertih and Tenang Police Station in Hulu Besut.
