Learn from us, Pas tells DAP over issue of Penang mall selling liquor

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas says it has shown a more "civil and peaceful" way of addressing people's concerns by advising Sunway Carnival Mall in Penang against openly selling liquor during the festive period.

Selangor Pas liaison secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir today said critics, especially DAP, should not be upset about it, but rather learn from the Islamist party on the way to do it.

"Permatang Pauh member of parliament (Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan) did not act aggressively, but instead did it in a peaceful and civilised manner. Learn from us.

"We have seen DAP representatives who were even more aggressive to the point of cursing and interfering with the duties of civil servants.

"Have we forgotten the incident involving former Bentong DAP MP Wong Tack and Ronnie Liu, who interfered with police officers performing their duties, as well as former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman (Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee) when he was an executive councillor?"

He said this in a statement published in the party's mouthpiece, Harakah.

Fawwaz had visited the mall management recently and advised the personnel to make changes to the sale of liquor at the mall.

He was criticised by DAP and Warisan over the move.

Roslan Shahir said Fawwaz was merely discharging his duties as the MP there.

"The management (then) sat down to discuss harmoniously with him and agreed to make modifications within a week.

"He is not banning or preventing the promotion of alcohol to non-Muslims. He is just asking for some modifications to be made because the mall is also visited by Muslims.

"Well done, YB, for taking a consultative approach and raising the concerns of the people he represents.

"Do not mind DAP or Warisan when an elected representative does his job."
