PTPTN inks MoU with Armed Forces Veteran Foundation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Foundation and National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership to meet the educational needs of children of army veterans.

Through this collaboration, 1,000 children of ex-army members who were born in 2022 will receive RM1,000 each from the foundation in the form of Simpan SSPN Prime funds totalling RM1 million.

In a joint statement today, the foundation and PTPTN said the main objective was to ensure the children would have educational savings to be used for their tertiary education when they turn 18.

Apart from that, the foundation is also contributing RM215,500 through the SPM 2021 Excellence initiative to 413 army veteran's children.

PTPTN CEO Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said PTPTN is also giving RM50,000 to 500 chidlren of ex-army members who were sucessfully accepted into Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) under the Dermasiswa Programme.

"We hope this will motivate and encourage parents and children, as well as support from all parties, including the veteran foundation in PTPTN's efforts to transform the minds of Malaysians to increase education savings and indirectly reduce dependence on education loans."

He said the cooperation between PTPTN and Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Foundation was significant in maximising the functions and roles of both agencies so that they can be utilised to benefit society, especially in terms of saving for higher education.

"Therefore, the cooperation is the best platform to increase public awareness about saving as well as to appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans who have contributed tremendously in maintaining national security." he added.

Earlier, the MoU was signed between Veteran Affairs' Department director-general Major General Zambery Jefry Darus and Ahmad Dasuki at Menara PTPTN.

The signing was witnessed by Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muez Abdul Aziz and Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar.
