Abang Iskandar to be promoted to Court of Appeal president

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim will be promoted to Court of Appeal president, the second highest position on the judicial ladder.

The promotion makes Abang Iskandar, 63, the first judge from Sarawak to assume the post, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Sources told FMT that Federal Court judge Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli, 63,will take over the role of Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak from Abang Iskandar.

Federal Court judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Diah, 65, will be made Chief Judge of Malaya, the third highest on the judicial ladder.

Abang Iskandar and Zabidin have been performing the functions and duties of the positions since last November.

They are expected to receive their appointment letters from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah tomorrow before an oath taking ceremony at the Palace of Justice in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Court of Appeal judge Datuk Nordin Hassan will be promoted to a Federal Court judge.

High Court judges Datuk Azman Abdullah, Datuk Azimah Omar, Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, Zaini Mazlan, Datuk Wong Kian Keong and Datuk Lim Chong Fong will be appointed to the Court of Appeal.
