Employment of foreign workers gets easier when IIRP starts on Jan 27

PUTRAJAYA: The hiring of foreign workers will get easier when the Illegal Immigrant Recalibration Plan 2.0 (IIRP) opens for registration on Jan 27, until the end of the year.

The plan, rolled out for the second time, was established to turn illegal immigrants in the country into legal foreign workers employed by qualified employers, subject to strict conditions decided by the government.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said that IIRP will include foreign domestic helper among other sectors for employers. "This will hopefully assist employers to hire their workers faster.

"Other sectors include manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying, security guards, services, agriculture and plantation,"

Khairul said that illegal immigrants who committed the following felony on or before Dec 31, 2022 are eligible to register for the programme.

• Section 6(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/63-- Entering and staying in the country without a valid pass.

• Section 15(1)(c)-- Overstaying after the expiration of the period of any pass relating to or issued to him; and

• Section Section 39B of Act 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963-- Violating the pass conditions.

"Employers can register their employees' detail online and they will be given an appointment date for verification process.

"Employers will then be asked to come to Immigration offices in the Peninsular with the total number of workers that they have registered.

"The approval will be given after one day and the workers are then required to go through a health screening process through The Foreign Workers Medical Examination Monitoring Agency (Fomema)," he said during the IIRP briefing.

He said that employers will then be required to make an online payment of a fee after the Fomema process.

"The recalibration fee is RM1,500. The levi in manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying, security guards and services sectors is RM1850,"

"Agriculture is RM640 while foreign domestic helper is RM410.

"After payment is made, a temporary employment visit pass (PLKS) sticker will be printed and given to employers," he said.

Khairul added that the department will not involve other parties or middleman during the IIRP process.
