TELUK INTAN: A woman was killed after the car driven by her fiance crashed into a ditch at Jalan Chui Chak-Langkap, Saturday afternoon.

The victim, Nurul Fatihah Ismail, 29, was confirmed dead at the scene while the driver, Zulhelmi Ibrahim, 30, and another female passenger who is also the driver's 28-year-old sister sustained injuries.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the department received information on the incident at 6.30pm.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the three victims were in a Honda Civic car heading from Kampung Ayer Hitam to Langkap.

"At the scene of the incident, the driver struck a puddle while trying to avoid a car in front of them. The vehicle then fell into a water-filled ditch on the left side of the road.

"The woman who was sitting next to the driver was killed on the spot. The male driver was slightly injured in the leg, while another female passenger who was sitting in the rear was seriously injured in the head," said Yusri in a statement.

He said the injured duo were taken to Teluk Intan Hospital to receive further treatment and the deceased was taken to the same hospital for a post-mortem.

"The case is being investigated under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call at 6.28pm before rushing to the scene.

"The female passenger who was in the back was retrieved by the public before the arrival of the fire brigade.
