Covert RTD officers uncover express bus drivers 'mistakes'

ALOR STAR: Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) personnel who went undercover in express buses, unearthed several offences committed by its drivers.

In a Chinese New Year operation in the state which kicked off on Jan 18, four express bus drivers were detected committing offences comprising the use of mobile phones while driving, driving in the right lane continuously, and driving more than 300 km with one driver and not following the correct lane when approaching an intersection.

Kedah RTD, Aman Shah Hashim said summons were issued to bus drivers involved in such breaches.

He said until yesterday, 3,731 vehicles were inspected in the state and 1,330 summonses were issued in addition to 144 other notices.

"Among the most common offences are no driving license, expired motor vehicle license (LKM) and no insurance coverage.

"To date, the offense of not possessing a driver's license is the most frequent offence, followed by LKM and insurance (offences).

"From the number, 60 vehicles were also confiscated for committing various offences," he said when contacted here today.

Aman Shah said the Chinese New Year operation will continue until the end of this month.
