Wee - "Good Sign" with unity govt leaders presence at MCA CNY open house

KUALA LUMPUR: The presence of political leaders from the unity government at MCA's Chinese New Year open house is a "good sign".

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong reiterated that his party backed the current unity government, led by a former adversary and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which was formed after the Nov 19 general election.

"The Prime Minister, with the Deputy Prime Minister, Barisan Nasional leaders and other party leaders are here.

"This is a good sign, we support the government and we need to work together no matter (what) our political beliefs (is)."

Wee said he felt "lucky" that the prime minister attended the Chinese New Year celebration, held at its headquarters at Wisma MCA here, this morning.

"When I made a courtesy visit to his office, I was just about to show him (the invite), Anwar said he was sure to come as it has been 25 years since he stepped foot into MCA."

Despite the presence of government and party leaders, notably missing at the open house were leaders from MCA's staunch rivals, the DAP.
