Firemen dissuade woman from jumping off building

KOTA KINABALU: All it took was 10 minutes for the Fire and Rescue Department to dissuade a woman from attempting to jump off a building in Jalan Laiman Diki, Kampung Air, here today.

It is understood that the 30-year-old woman resorted to the act after arguing with her husband.

Her husband was also at the scene to dissuade the victim from resorting to the act.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre here said they received a report on the incident at 9.44 am.

He said immediately a team of firemen together with machinery and the Emergency Services Support Unit from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.

"When the fire brigade arrived, there was a female victim who was attempting to jump from a building about 10 meters high.

"The fire brigade persuaded (her not to) and after about 10 minutes succeeded in preventing her from doing so," he said in a media statement, today.

After rescuing the victim, firemen lowered her to safety.

"The victim was then handed over to the police for further action.

"The operation ended at 10.06 am," he said.
