Police opens investigation against massive burning of firecrackers in Simpang Pulai

SIMPANG PULAI: Police have recently opened investigations against a large burning of firecrackers and fireworks on the road in a residential area in Simpang Pulai here, recently.

The brazen activity was circulated on social media in a 12-minute video where a long trail of firecrackers were lined-up along a stretch of street with onlookers present.

Last year, police only allowed the sale of 'Happy Boom' fireworks and 'pop-pop' firecrackers as both types do not contain explosive chemicals that could endanger safety.

It is unclear what kind of firecracker was used in the viral video.

If caught, one can be prosecuted for the act of possessing, selling or buying firecrackers under Sections 7 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

The act clearly stipulates that perpetrators can be sentenced to up to seven years in prison or a fine of RM10,000 or both.
