RM5 Menu Rahmah in the works for the poor

KAJANG: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said an affordable menu for the poor is in the works.

He said the menu, called "Menu Rahmah" and priced below RM5, was being discussed with restaurant associations, including the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) and the Malaysian Tom Yam Restaurant Owners Association (Pertom).

"I have presented the menu idea to the associations, and they have stated their readiness to serve such a menu in their restaurants.

"A memorandum of understanding with these associations will be prepared next week."

Salehuddin said the menu would focus on the needs of the poor.

"The menu will be served alongside regular and premium menu items, such as fresh grilled squid and grilled sea bass.

"Menu Rahmah will comprise a plate of rice, a piece of chicken or fish and a side dish of vegetables, and sold at restaurants for RM5 or below."

Salehuddin announced the menu at a press conference at Restoran Mak Kimbong in Seksyen 4, Bandar Baru Bangi, after a walkabout session. He visited several eateries in Bandar Baru Bangi and conducted checks under Op Menu 3.0.
