Up to PH parties to decide whether to accept sacked Umno members, says Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: It's up to Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties to decide whether they want to accept Umno members who were sacked recently, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke today.

Loke said PH would not interfere with each party's affairs.

"If any of them wants to join, it's up to each party to decide, but they have yet to state their intentions.

"So let's not jump the gun and preempt it," he said after attending the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) Chinese New Year celebration.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, ministers, deputies, ambassadors, ACCCIM office bearers, as well as corporate and organisation leaders.

Last night, Umno sacked former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar as well as suspended several leaders, including Sembrong member of parliament Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, for violating the party's Constitution in the 15th General Election (GE15).

When asked if DAP would invite Khairy to join the party, Loke said: "I don't think we need to make an open invitation. It's up to him to decide on his career."

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in a statement last night, said the party had also suspended former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang and Jempol Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Shariff for six years.

The party also sacked 26 members from Pahang Umno, Putrajaya Umno (nine), Pasir Gudang Umno (five) and Tanjong Karang Umno (two).

They were sacked for committing several offences, including contesting as independent candidates and helping opposition candidates in the polls.
