Anwar to meet Singapore PM at the Istana tomorrow morning

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is due to arrive at Changi International Airport tomorrow morning for a one-day official visit to the republic with his wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Anwar will start his itinerary with a pre-council meeting with government officials at the Malaysian High Commission before heading to the Istana for a welcome ceremony followed by an orchid naming and a courtesy call on Singapore President Halimah Yacob.

He will then adjourn for a four-eyed meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the palace, laying emphasis on enhancing bilateral ties between the two Asean neighbours.

Anwar will also attend the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the International Trade and Industry Ministry and Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry ahead of the official lunch hosted by Lee.

After lunch, he will witness the signing of a cross-border electricity purchase agreement between YTL PowerSeraya Pte Ltd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd at Shangri-La Hotel.

He will also have an engagement with Bloomberg and a hi-tea with the Malaysian diaspora here.

Anwar will end his first visit to Singapore since becoming prime minister on Nov 24 last year with a press conference with the Malaysian media before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
