Stop work order issued on construction site over Ampang LRT line service disruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued a stop work order for a construction site in Jalan Raja Laut, here, following service disruption on the Ampang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line last Friday.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the stop work order was issued to 'Tetuan Persekutuan Seruan Islam (Jam'iyah) Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan', the owners of the proposed project which involved the construction of a 44-storey SOHO Tower comprising 326 units with a basement on Lot PT 163, adjacent to the tracks.

He said the DBKL directive was also from the outcome of a meeting held with representatives of the Land Transport Agency (APAD), Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) and several DBKL departments last Saturday.

"The stop work order was issued as a safety measure to ensure that APAD and related agencies can carry out investigations, scrutiny, and identify the cause of the LRT service disruption that occurred recently.

"For the record, the (construction) project is currently only at the preliminary stage, involving earthwork outside of zone 1 and zone 2 (protection zone)," he said in a statement today.

He said DBKL through the One Stop Committee (OSC) will also seek the involvement APAD and Prasarana to obtain their views especially when there is a development application in or near the Railway Protection Zone.

Last Friday the LRT service on the Ampang-Sri Petaling route was disrupted over safety factors after the track alignment was found to be kinked near the Bandaraya LRT Station.

Preliminary checks found that the LRT service delay was caused by damage to the flyover structure carrying the rail tracks due to construction work adjacent to the area.
