KUALA PERLIS – The landscape along the Kuala Perlis coastline is much cleaner now, thanks to the continuous efforts and hard work of all parties.
Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah said the community around the area, who are mostly fishermen, have become increasingly aware of the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness.
"This is the result of a joint effort by all parties, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations, the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) and individuals who never get tired of organising awareness campaigns and gotong-royong to change the mentality of the local community," he told Bernama here today.
Abu Bakar said he also went on the ground every week to invite the community to participate in clean-up works around Kuala Perlis.
"Alhamdulillah, their response has been very encouraging, and I am determined to continue this effort of beautifying Kuala Perlis, one of the state's tourist spots.
"Only when the area is clean will tourists get to enjoy the natural beauty here," he said.
In December 2019, Bernama reported that Kuala Perlis, Sungai Santan and Sungai Repoh are among the most polluted places in the state due to the irresponsible act of dumping garbage and other waste materials. – BERNAMA
