PH prepared to be investigated by MACC, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: PKR and component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) are prepared if the authorities want to investigate the coalition's financial accounts.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said PKR and component parties in PH had always promptly sent its financial statements to be audited by the Registrar of Societies annually.

"I have no problem if the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) receives reports and wants to investigate us," he told reporters after chairing the Cabinet meeting here today.

He was asked to comment on the statements made by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) leaders who have challenged PKR and DAP to publish their audited accounts.

Two days ago, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, former principal private secretary to Muhyiddin Yassin, had published Bersatu's party account statements for the years 2020 and 2021.

In a posting on his social media account, Marzuki said the account statements were tabled during the party's general assemblies and that it was also submitted to the RoS.

"For those who accused Bersatu of receiving RM4 billion from the RM92.5 billion Economic Stimulus Package fund, you can see the audited party account statements for 2020 and 2021.

"The account statements which have been audited were tabled during the party's annual general assembly.

"The account statement is now a public document since it was also submitted to RoS. We have nothing to hide," Marzuki wrote.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the commission had frozen Bersatu's accounts.

He said the accounts were frozen to enable the MACC to investigate funds believed to have been obtained from illegal proceeds.

The investigations were under the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
