Boy, 12, drowns attempting to rescue nephew at Pantai Kemayang

BACHOK: A 12-year-old boy is feared drowned while trying to rescue his nephew at Pantai Kemayang here, today.

Bachok police chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said the missing boy was identified as Ahmad Fadhlullah Mohamad.

He said in the 8am incident, the victim went to the beach with his nephew Muhammad Nabil Irfan Ismail Mokhtar, 11.

"He went missing after he tried to rescue his nephew who slipped and fell while walking along the concrete embankment of the beach.

"Seeing this, Ahmad Fadhlullah's sister Nurul Afiqah, 19, jumped into the water to save the two of them.

"She managed to save Muhammad Nabil but was unable to locate Ahmad Fadhlullah," he said.

He said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched after police received a missing person's report.

"The SAR operation involved the Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Civil Defence Force," he added.

At Press time, the SAR team has yet to locate the boy.
