Food supply enough for Ramadan - Mat Sabu

PUTRAJAYA: Food should be focused less during fasting month, said Agriculture and Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu in jest today.

Mohamad was responding to a question from reporters on the ministry's preparation to ensure adequate supply of essential food items during Ramadan which will begin next week.

"It's the fasting month, we should focus less on eating and food," he quipped to the reporters at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here, today.

Mohamad gave his assurance that there would be sufficient supply of fresh food items to meet the demand during the fasting month.

"InsyaAllah, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) and its network including the ministry will continue to monitor the supply of the food items.

"We hope other ministries will be monitoring the prices of items but we will ensure there won't be any shortage of supply," he said.

On Feb 23, Mohamad also assured that there would be adequate supply of chicken and eggs during Ramadan following the ongoing nationwide shortage of the two items.

Yesterday, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said that the ministry would announce a maximum price scheme for the Ramadan and Hari Raya period.

He also added that the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry shared information that the country still had enough supply of essential goods for the next few months.
