Special allocation for HKL for digitalisation of patient records

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will provide a special allocation to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) to digitalise patients' medical records.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the hospital was still managing patient records manually, dealing with over 16,000 records daily.

She said the move would help HKL to better manage the patients and their medical records.

"Just now, the HKL director mentioned that the digitalisation of patients' medical records would be a great help to the hospital.

"Therefore, InsyaAllah, we will provide a special allocation for it, to better manage the patients and their medical record," she told reporters after the launch of "Buku Coffee Table Covid-19" at HKL.

However, Dr Zaliha did not elaborate on the allocation.

Earlier, HKL director Datin Dr Rohana Johan in her briefing over HKL's operations said about 16,000 patients' medical records moved in and out of Wisma Kayu daily.

Wisma Kayu is where all the patient's medical records are kept.

Dr Rohana said she hoped that all the medical records can be digitalised, for better management of the hospital and patients.

"I hope that it could be materialised before I retire. If not all, at least half of it," she said.

During the briefing, Dr Rohana also raised that most of the hospital's vehicles were old and worn out.

"About three-quarters of the vehicles are considered 'menopausal', only a few can be considered 'teenagers'," she said.

Meanwhile, Dr Zaliha during her work visit also announced an allocation of RM1 million for HKL.

The allocation was for the procurement of medical equipment, including B-Scan machines, laptops and Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machines among others.
