Anwar: No decision yet on legalising cannabis

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has not made any decision to legalise cannabis.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there was no consensus in allowing the substance, including for the health sector.

He said the government had referred the matter to the police's narcotics department for its views.

"Thousands are affected by drugs, they become addicted.

"Narcotics chief (Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay) said there could be more serious issues if it is allowed.

"We have to look at the overall picture before making any decision. This must be reviewed together," he said at "Dialog Anak Muda Temu Anwar" during the Youth Empowerment Fair 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here today.

Anwar was asked about the legalisation of marijuana for medical and tourism purposes.
