Pregnant woman dies in Machang crash

MACHANG: A five-month pregnant woman was killed when the motorcycle she was riding grazed a car on the road here last night.

Police identified the woman as 22-year-old Che Suriani Mahmood. She died while receiving treatment at Machang Hospital.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the accident happened at Jalan Kemuning - Bukit Bakar at 7.13pm.

He said initial investigation showed that the victim suddenly veered into the right lane of the road before the car grazed her.

"The car travelling from Kuala Besut to Kuala Krai.

"The driver failed to stop his car in time, causing it to graze with the bike. This resulted in the motorcyclist falling off her motorcycle," he said in a statement.

He added the 31-year-old car driver escaped unhurt.

He said the woman who suffered serious head and bodily injuries, died shortly after admission to the hospital.
