Senior citizen trying to save dogs to be charged in court

PETALING JAYA: The senior citizen who was allegedly beaten by a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) officer during a stray dog-capturing operation last week will be charged in court on Friday.

Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhrudin Hamid said the 69-year-old would be charged in the PJ magistrate's court under Section 186 of the Penal Code, for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his or her public functions.

"Investigation papers have been referred to the deputy public prosecutor and we have been instructed to charge the man on Friday (March 31)," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, NST reported that the policeMBPJ enforcement officers and the man during a stray dog-capturing operation in Taman Kanagapuram here last week.

Police received a report from an enforcement officer involved in the operation at 10am.

During the operation, a man was alleged to protect the stray dogs by getting them into his premises.

The enforcement officers attempted to prevent the man from closing the doors to his premises, but they failed to do so.
