Missing soldier found dead in Belum Forest Reserve in Gerik

IPOH: A soldier, reported missing while on duty, was found dead in the Belum Forest Reserve in Gerik.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the body of the soldier from the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, Sri Bentong army camp, Pahang, was found at 10.15am.

"Yes, (we have) found him. I will get the full report and finalise it with the Armed Forces. An official press statement will be issued soon," he said when contacted today.

The body was taken to the Gerik Hospital for post-mortem, and he would be buried in his hometown in Penaga, Penang.

It was reported that the Search And Rescue (SAR) operations had been activated since the first day of the disappearance.

Police were informed of his disappearance on April 7 around 5pm, when the victim and five other personnel were conducting an operation in the assigned area.
