Public urged to be vigilant with Covid-19 precautions, despite current mild situation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia has urged the public to take all vital measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

This includes simple personal precautions such as masking up in crowded places, hand sanitisation and maintaining social distancing, which are still the best ways to control the spread of the disease.

President Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh said although the Covid-19 situation was currently mild, he urged the people not to be careless.

"Private hospitals are currently experiencing low Covid-19 admissions despite the increase in Covid-19 cases reported.

"The number of patients admitted both in general wards and Intensive Care Units (ICU) are lower in comparison to 2021.

"The patients attended at Emergency Rooms in private hospitals have mild symptoms and some have been detected to have Covid-19 on testing without any significant signs of the virus during screening," he said in a statement today.

Kuljit said the association was not distressed by the current Covid-19 situation.

He said private hospitals were well-prepared to face the Covid-19 wave based on their previous experience, but warned that the posibility of increasing capacity in the hospitals would be a challenge as the private hospitals were currently full with patients of other types of medical conditions, as well as faced with an on-going shortage of nurses.

"Our hope is to have a solution from the government which is yet to materialise."

He also warned that a surge of of Covid-19 infections will put a setback to all efforts done to recover the country's economic state.
