Covid-19 spike: Tuaran residents urged to mask up

TUARAN: People in the district have been advised to wear a face mask because of a sudden increase in the number of Covid-19 infections.

District Health officer Dr Noraziah Bakri said residents must help to prevent the spread of the virus.

"Wearing a face mask indoors is voluntary. Wearing one outside and in open areas is not mandatory.

"However, it is highly encouraged as it has been proven to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission," she said in a statement today.

This reminder comes at a time when Tuaran is experiencing a spike in cases. It now has more than 50 infections.

The district recorded 26 cases last week, compared with 18 the week before

Dr Noraziah emphasised the wearing of a face mask in crowded areas such as night markets, stadiums, shopping malls and places of worship.

"Individuals with symptoms such as fever, cough and cold are advised to wear a face mask at all times."
