PASIR GUDANG: An outing for a group of friends turned into a tragedy when one of them drowned while the other is still missing when they fell into Sungai Masai near the Seri Intan Condominium in Bandar Seri Alam here last night.
Rescuers found the body of Mohd Danish Ahmad, 11, at 5.06am, some 50 metres away from the location where he was reported to have fell.
The search and rescue operation for the other victim, identified as 13-year-old Zahir Ajmal, is still on-going.
It is learnt that the boys and their friends were playing by the Sungai Masai banks. However, their friends only informed their parents about the incident at 10pm last night.
Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue operation commander Sarhan Akmal Mohamad said a team of rescuers was deployed to the scene after the department received a report on the incident at 11.31pm.
"Rescuers involved in the search and rescue operation began diving to search for the victims at 4.28am.
"About 30 minutes later, rescuers found the body of the first victim (Mohd Danish)," he said, adding that the body of the victim had been handed over to the police.
