Decomposed body of a man found floating in Pasir Pekan river

TUMPAT: A decomposed body of a man was found floating at the Pasir Pekan river near Wakaf Bharu here yesterday.

District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Amran Dollah said the victim's body was found at about 3pm.

"Police received a report at around 3.30pm and following the report, a police team from Wakaf Bharu station was sent to the scene.

"The body was already brought to the riverbank by firemen when the police team arrived," he said in a statement.

Amran said initial investigation showed that the body was swept by the river current to the area before it was retrieved by the firemen.

"Early investigations showed that no injuries were found on the body. The body was later sent to Tumpat hospital for a post-mortem.

"The post-mortem revealed that the man died due to drowning," he added.

He said police have identified the victim as the man who jumped into the river in a bid to escape during an operation in Pasir Pekan Tengah on May 24.

He has ruled out any foul play in the incident and classified the case as sudden death.
