Fadhlina: SMK Khir Johari students can continue studying in school until 2027

NIBONG TEBAL: The issue concerning SMK Khir Johari (SMKKJ) in Sungai Petani, Kedah, has been resolved, the Education Ministry said.

This after parents of primary school pupils in Sungai Petani had called on the ministry to review the decision to convert SMKKJ into a Form 6 College.

They had said phasing out Forms 1 to 5 in SMKKJ to make way for a Form 6 College since 2022, was done without consulting them.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the matter had been resolved and dismissed it as a non-issue.

She said their focus was to upgrade the school into a Form Six College.

"We are in the process of landing, and the issue of access to education has been resolved.

"I think there is nothing to worry because students will continue to study there until 2027," she said.

Elaborating, Fadhlina said the decision had been agreed upon to improve the quality of education, especially to focus on Form Six students in the area.

It was previously reported that Sungai Petani member of parliament Dr Taufiq Johari would consult all stakeholders over the objection against the plan to convert SMKKJ into a Form Six College.

Dr Taufiq said he would be meeting with the Kuala Muda district education office (PPD) and the state education department (JPN) to get a clearer picture on the issue.(Hyperlink: https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/04/1043950/petition-against-conv...)
