3 killed, 6 seriously injured in four-vehicle accident on North-South Expressway

REMBAU: Three people were killed, and six others seriously injured in a four-vehicle accident near Kilometer 226.5 northbound of the North-South Expressway (Plus) here early this morning.

Rembau district police chief Superintendent Shaik Abd Kadar Shaik Mohamed said the incident occurred around 5.50am.

Two victims died at the scene, while another died while receiving treatment.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, carrying a load of earth and flowers and driven by Mohd Esa Daharin, 73, was travelling from Ayer Keroh, Melaka, heading towards Senawang, Seremban.

"The lorry, which also carried two Bangladeshi workers, was travelling in the left lane and is believed to have lost control when it reached the location of the accident," he said in a statement today.

He said the lorry then reportedly hit the road barrier on the right side of the highway before skidding back to the left.

"At the same time, a Honda City car driven by a 21-year-old man travelling from behind in the right lane was unable to avoid the lorry and collided with it.

"Following that, two cars, a BMW and Toyota Vios, travelling from behind the lorry collided with the lorry as well," he said.

As a result of the accident, the lorry driver and worker Md Usuf Ali, 40, suffered head injuries and died at the scene.

"Another 40-year-old worker was seriously injured, while the 21-year-old passenger of the first car, Terence Ng Zhi Yang, was confirmed dead upon arrival at the Rembau Hospital.

"The driver and passengers of the Honda City and Toyota Vios sustained serious injuries. All the bodies have been sent to the Forensic Unit of the Rembau Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death," he added.

He also mentioned that members of the public who have information about the incident can contact the Investigating Officer, K. Kaveearassu, at 01121581473.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
