CHUKAI: The wife of a mentally disabled man who was beaten up by several people at a farmer's market here said watching the video of the incident left her "heartbroken".
"They were heartless. My husband had already apologised profusely, but they still beat him up," said the woman, Faridah, 44.
Her husband, Ahmad Nor Al Faizan Jusoh, 47, was beaten and dragged by several assailants after he allegedly crashed his motorcycle into one of the stalls at the market on Friday.
The men also dumped fried noodles on Nor Al Faizan's head.
"When he asked for water to wash his eyes because it stung after they dumped the noodles on his head, one of them kicked him in the head," said the mother of five.
She said she could not understand how her husband's assailants could treat him like an animal.
"They should have come to meet me and discussed the matter. I would have paid for the damages," she told reporters after receiving a visit from Umno Youth exco member Mohd Fadini Rahim at her home in Kampung Mak Chili here today.
She said she was thankful to Umno Youth, which had offered to help her with pro-bono legal advice.
"I also appreciate the help of those who prevented the assailants from further beating my husband."
Faridah said Nor Al Faizan was a pious man who never laid a hand on anyone.
"He can be vocal, but if they (the assailants) had told him (on the day of the incident) that they would call the police, he would have been afraid."
Yesterday, Kemaman police chief Deputy Superintendent Wan Muhamad Wan Ja'afar said three men, aged 16 to 60, have been arrested over the incident.
Last week, a video of the man's assault went viral.
