Puspakom CEO defends staff following slapping incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman has expressed support for his staff following a viral incident in which a customer slapped a vehicle inspector at one of its branches.

In a video posted on Puspakom's official Facebook page, Mahmood reacted to the video showing the confrontation, saying he was shocked by the incident.

Mahmood also praised the officer for remaining calm and not reacting aggressively despite the altercation.

"I was shocked and felt sorry for our staff. He didn't retaliate or scold back and remained composed. I'm proud of him, but I don't think this should have happened," he said.

The incident occurred during a routine vehicle inspection, where the vehicle failed to meet safety standards.

Mahmood added Puspakom would fail vehicles due to critical issues like worn tyres, which are vital for road safety, as well as brakes and lights.

"If vehicle owners maintain their cars properly, incidents like this won't happen," he said.

Mahmood urged the public to understand that Puspakom staff follow strict procedures when inspecting vehicles.

"People should know that our actions follow SOPs and standards. They shouldn't be upset if a vehicle fails inspection," he said.

He reassured the public that vehicle owners can simply fix issues and return for re-inspection.

Defending his staff's integrity, Mahmood said that not all Puspakom employees lack professionalism.

"I will defend my staff who act with integrity," he said. "This shows that not all Puspakom staff lack integrity. Many follow SOPs with honesty."

"I believe most Puspakom staff share these values and are committed to making road transportation safer," he added.
