Woman fined for custom car plate resembling her name

ALOR STAR: A woman was issued a compound by the Road Transport Department (RTD) for using a car registration number that resembled a word associated with her name.

The woman, in her 30s, admitted that the registration number on her vehicle had been affixed by her husband.

Kedah RTD director Stien Van Lutam said that enforcement officers stopped the woman's car at 6.40pm on Sunday at Km49.5 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS).

"Upon further inspection, we found that the car displayed a registration number that did not comply with the required specifications and appeared as a word.

"This is an offence under Rule 6(7) of the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Rules 1959. A notice was issued for further action," he said.

He added that enforcement officers also issued a JPJ (P) 22 notice and a vehicle inspection directive under Section 61(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
