Late Pas spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat's son sacked from the party

KOTA BARU: Pas has sacked Nik Omar Nik Aziz for standing as PKR candidate in the Chempaka state seat.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the party decided to boot out Nik Omar after consultations among its top leadership.

Nik Omar is the son of former Kelantan Menteri Besar and Pas’ iconic spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

Takiyuddin said Nik Omar’s decision to contest on a PKR ticket was against the party constitution.

“Worse still, his action also goes against what the late Nik Aziz had struggled for in Pas all along.

“His decision to stand on a PKR ticket, a party in the Dap-led Opposition, is totally unacceptable and has brought shame to his own family” he said, adding Nik Omar had been sacked with immediate effect.

However, Takiyuddin said Pas was not surprised by Nik Omar’s action as there had been rumours he was going to jump ship and contest as a PKR candidate.

"Whatever it is Pas is not overly concerned about his decision as Nik Omar was a nobody in the party anyway..he was just an ordinary member,” he said.

Pas is fielding Ahmad Fathan Mahmood to contest in Chempaka while Barisan Nasional has fielded Mohamad Fareez Noor Amran to contest in the seat.

Nik Omar sprang a surprise at the nomination centre in Pengkalan Chepa when he turned up to submit his nomination form this morning.

Chempaka was held by Nik Aziz until his death in February 2015 at the age of 84.

Meanwhile, Nik Aziz's fourth son Nik Abduh is contesting the Bachok seat as a Pas candidate.

He was moved from the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat to Bachok where he would face BN’s Datuk Awang Adek Hussin, who previously lost by a slim majority in the 13th general election.
