Anwar: Support for Dr M to end political crisis

PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his support for Tun Dr Mahathir as the prime minister candidate for Pakatan Harapan.

“(So) I will be going to Istana (Negara) to submit a letter to address the changes of the PM candidate from me (to Dr Mahathir) made in Pakatan Harapan,” he told reporters at Eastin Hotel before leaving for Istana Negara.

His show of support, he said was to end to current political turmoil in the country.

Anwar said he was happy with the decision made by fellow party colleagues, adding that the move was necessary.

“I would like to thank the PKR leaders and parliamentary members who have agreed with my motion to ease the tension on the country’s leadership.

“So, we must take a step back and propose Tun’s (Dr Mahathir) name as the PM candidate in order to put a stop to the political turmoil.

“And secondly, we have rejected the previous system. May Allah bless our efforts and save the country for us to focus our attention on recovering the economy and the ensure the well-being of the public.

Anwar’s return to the hotel later was welcomed by party supporters chanting “Reformasi!” at the lobby.

He however refused to give comments to the media after his visit to the Istana Negara.
