'Those who left Bersatu can join Pejuang'

SLIM RIVER: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad tonight elaborated on his new party "Pejuang", revealing that its full name is Parti Pejuang Tanah Air.

"Today's politics is not (fighting) for the race, nation but 'what will I get'," he said, adding there was a need to eradicate this kind of political atmosphere.

"This is why I need to form a new party. I don't want to see too many parties but the old party has been hijacked by Muhyiddin (Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) and we have been sacked from it," he said.

Dr Mahathir said this new party is not to divide the Malays but to further strengthen the race, religion, country and the people.

"That is why we named this party as Parti Pejuang Tanah Air. This party must be clean from corruption and those who left Bersatu, they can join this party.

"We should know that corruption will destroy the race, corruption will destroy the Malays, and those who want to hold positions and have money, please join other parties," he said.

Dr Mahathir said this on the sidelines of an event in which Pejuang unveiled they will field a candidate in the upcoming Slim by-election.

The candidate, 38-year-old lawyer, Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi will however contest as an independent.
