PH submits 3 names to be part of Independent Committee

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan has submitted three names to Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Law and Parliament Affairs) Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan to be part of the emergency's Independent Committee.

The three leaders are PH chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Nasution from PKR, Lumut member of parliament Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli from Parti Amanah Negara and Seremban MP Anthony Loke from DAP.

In a joint statement today, the trio said although they will be part of the Independent Committee, they pledged to propose to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to revoke the current emergency and to let Parliament sitting resume as scheduled.

"The participation of the opposition in the Independent Committee does not change our stance that the reasons given by the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) on the need for an emergency are unacceptable.

"We, together with the majority of MPs, stand by our opinion that this emergency must end and that Parliament must convene immediately," they said in the statement today.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Jan 11 consented to proclaim a state of emergency nationwide until Aug 1 following the spike in daily Covid-19 cases.
