No March 8 Dewan Rakyat sitting, says Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliamentary sitting calendar which stated that a month-long session would convene from March 8 was no longer valid after a State of Emergency was declared by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January.

In a statement today, Parliament Malaysia's corporate communications division explained that the schedule listed on its website was the original calendar of the first meeting of the Fourth Session of the 14th Parliament, set before the proclamation was made.

"Based on Section 14(2) of the Emergency Ordinance (Essential Powers) 2021, any Parliamentary meeting that had been called before the effective date of the ordinance but is yet to be held, is cancelled.

"Therefore, the said original calendar is no longer applicable," read the statement, which was issued yesterday.
