Claims of possible change of government in Sabah merely propaganda, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: People should not be easily swayed by the political propaganda that is meant to destabilise the government.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was commenting on the rumours of a change in the Sabah government following the warming of ties between Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Warisan Sabah in recent days.

He said PBS secretary-general Datuk Joniston Bangkuai had also denied such rumours yesterday.

"This is just propaganda being played up to confuse the people or an attempt to break the unity among components within Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

"GRS is solid as the political situation is stable and it was given the mandate to rule and to focus on the state development," he said after visiting flood victims at the multipurpose hall at PPR Taman Serigai Putatan here.

Hajiji, who is also Sabah Perikatan Nasional chief, said he was hopeful that the people would play their respective roles in developing the state.

Present were Sabah state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and state Community Development and People's Well Being minister Shahelmy Yahya.

On Sunday, 83 people from 45 families lost their homes in a fire at Kampung Meruntum.

Hajiji added that the government would allow villagers to rebuild their houses on the state land according to approved planning from the authorities.

Each household also received RM500 from the Sabah government; Each family will also get an additional RM3,000 from the state welfare department for food, kitchen appliances and construction materials.

Sabah Baitulmal Corporation also donated RM10,000 while Sabah Islamic Council gave RM48,000.
