Pas yet to decide on issue of Che Abdullah's alleged virtual akad nikah

KOTA BARU: The ball is in the Pas headquarters' court to decide on the future of its Kelantan liaison secretary Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi for alleging holding his marriage solemnisation (akad nikah) virtually.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the Kelantan Pas found out about the case after it went viral recently.

"It can't be denied that the news has had some impact on our image soon after it went viral.

"Therefore, Pas' headquarters, as well as the state party, had sought a written explanation from Datuk Che Abdullah.

"I was informed that he had submitted his explanation letter to the party's headquarters two days ago but whatever the decision is, it will be made by the party's central (committee)," he said.

Speaking to reporters after presenting food aid to the frontliners on duty at Masjid Taman Kurnia Jaya here today, Mohd Amar said Pas headquarters would hold a meeting on the matter soon.

"Pas demanded Che Abdullah to explain the issue because we want to listen to his side of the story.

"In this kind of issue, we need to act fairly. We do not want to listen to one side only so that we will know the truth," said Mohd Amar who is also Pas vice-president.

He said Pas would not let this issue go unattended as it had affected the party.

The nuptials between the Kelantan politician who is also a deputy Minister with his bride was allegedly held on June 1 and had recently gone viral on social media platforms.

Pictures of the couple's marriage certificate as well as the conversation between the politician and the imam with two other men, believed to be witnesses, were also widely circulated.

The bride said to be from Selangor, was believed to be Che Abdullah's third wife.

Responding to the case, Narathiwat Islamic Council in Thailand denied approving the online solemnisation of the couple.

The council's vice-president Abdul Aziz Che Mamat said the council had never approved such solemnisation to be used by imams in the Thai province.

It was alleged that the couple was married by an imam from the Sungai Golok province and the solemnisation ceremony was held over the phone.
