KUANTAN: Pahang Umno has expressed its support for the party's president in the wake of the current political turmoil.
Pahang Umno chief Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail urged the Umno leadership as well as party members at various levels in the state to remain united and support the party's decision.
"Pahang Umno is standing firmly behind the statement made by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.
"All Umno leadership and members at various levels in Pahang should support the statement which is in line with the decision made during the Umno general assembly.
"Our focus has to be towards looking into the welfare of the people who are still affected by the various setbacks and hardship resulted by the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement today.
Zahid had yesterday announced Umno has withdrawn its support for Perikatan Nasional, claiming that the government had now lost its majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
He had said Umno chose to side with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and would not defend Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his government, who had "clearly failed in the eyes of the people".
