KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional's Padang Rengas member of parliament Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has confirmed that there is an effort to collect statutory declarations (SD) to support Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the next Prime Minister.
He also confirmed that he has signed the SD but stopped short of revealing the names of other MPs who have done the same.
"Yes, I have signed an SD supporting Ismail Sabri. As for other MPs, I don't know, have to ask them," he told Berita Harian today.
He was responding to talks that Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs were gathering SDs to back Ismail as the next prime minister to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who had recently lost his majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier, it was reported that during a meeting with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs this morning, Muhyiddin had expressed intention to hand in his resignation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.
The matter was confirmed by Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof who is Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions).
